Lists and Tables

Lists and tables are easy to sort, and if you filter data you get immediate feedback. When we're creating our own Silks, we often start out with just a table to get a feel of the data. You can quickly sort your data by clicking on the column headers.

In the following video we insert a table with country heads of state on the Countries of the World Silk site. We add 'Date of Birth' as a column and sort by it. We also filter for 'Europe' as country of residence, so we get a table of the heads of state in Europe, sorted by their age. We then publish the table on the home page of the Silk.

We explain how to create a table or list yourself in the following steps.

Create a table visualization

To create a table, click on the 'Explore' tab, and hit the table or list button from the menu. You will see a table, and some pickers on top of it. These pickers let you adjust the table view.

Use the 'Collection' picker to select the collection of datacards you want to visualize. TO add columns, use the 'Add column' button.

If you're the owner of the Silk, you can click the green 'Publish' button to publish the visualization to your home page or another page.

You can also add a table to your Silk by editing your home page or another page, and use the '+' icon anywhere you want to the table. Select 'table' from the 'visualization' menu.

More options

Click the 'More options' button and you will access a menu that allows you to further adjust your table. You can select a tag from the 'Sort by' picker to sort the table or list based on that rank. You can also limit the maximum number of items shown with the 'Maximum items' picker.

Click on any column header to sort the table or list, either by numeric value or by alphabetical order.

Building a list view

A list is a simpler version of a table. It shows a bullet list with pages, followed by optional extra items. To sort a list, click the 'more options' button and use the 'Sort by' menu.

Filtering your charts

Click on the ‘Add filter’ button to filter your data.

You can filter your results by text, values that occur often, ranges, and more. Either type the filters into the pre-set filter boxes or click the ‘Add filter’ button and select a new filter from the available tags.

For more information, see the help article on filtering.

Share and embed visualization

A sharing button is located above every Silk visualization, and on every explore page.

You can share the visualization on Twitter or Facebook. The share link will take people to the exact same page and visualization view that was showing when you clicked the ‘Share’ button.

You can also embed a visualization on your website or blog. Click ‘Share’ then click on the ‘Embed’ button. Copy the embed code to your clipboard. Paste the code into the editor for your website or blog.
